FUN AND INFORMATIONAL LINKS:
- Scissors, tape
- Poster board and shape templates
- Colored pencils, markers, art supplies, Sharpie
- Ruler, protractor, compass
ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
- Create a pattern based on a tessellation.
- Use the videos listed below to make your "Translation Pattern". Your tessellation should be recognizable, not abstract. Ideas: animals, sneakers, cars, etc.
- Pick a base shape (square, hexagon, etc)
- Practice your tessellation on scratch paper.
- Cut out your base shape. Draw and cut out details.
- Attach the pieces tape. Make a sturdier shape for tracing out of poster board.
- Trace your tessellations onto the final project poster board (24x18"). Fill the entire space, leaving a 1-1.5" border all the way around
- Add details to each tessellation (slightly different).
- Write a description of how to created your tessellation including identifying the transformations you used.
GRADING
- Project is finished
- Complexity of tessellation shape
- Content is recognizable
- Details inside each tessellation: variety, neatly done,
- Explanation of transformations used in tessellating: extremely clear and concise, noting all transformations and, maybe, reflectional or rotational symmetry if it applies
- Real world connection: Where have you seen tessellation (or transformations) like these in real life? Any careers or products of note?
